→ Home Zone beta 6.1 (Mac OS X 10.4 only)
Based on all feedback, I fixed some crashes and improved handling of some airport network names. Let me know if you still find something that’s not working right so I can further stabilize the core.
On the new features front, I’m working on a new action plugin architecture that allows users to develop their own actions using AppleScript or Objective-C. This way, actions can be created, added and updated easier.
Also, Louis has created a terrific icon that will be released together with the new interface, which is in draft stage right now. Thanks, Louis.

To everyone who offered me to donate something so far: Thanks alot! This is a public beta right now, and will most likely be shareware when it’s final. I appreciate your help, but you might want to save your pennies for the final release.

Any idea what the range is for the price for Home Zone?

I haven’t made a decision yet. I’d say it will be in the $12 – $16 range, depending on how many useful features can be added. I know it’s not worth that right now, but that’s why we call it public beta. I just don’t want to pretend it will always be free.

I’d pay that kinda money for this app if it becomes more stable and has more features… I’ve noticed sometimes when I resume from sleep that the bluetooth polling has died completely and warrants a restart of Home Zone, etc.

I’m probably gonna restrict it to already paired devices so I don’t need to do a full broadcast scan, which is awfully slow and leads to all kinds of problems (like this one).
The action plugin architecture is nearly ready, and will make it really easy for me (or anyone else) to create actions written as an Applescript, Shell script or Objective-C code (I will post a guide when I release it). This will lead to more features for everyone.

Well I thought that’s what already happened, since it’s kinda weird to want to look for a Bluetooth device for a zone that’s not paired, unless you want Home Zone to notify you when someone else’s phone is around (which could be useful, I guess…)

Kudos on the excellent idea for Home Zone. It’s really useful.
Could you please let me know how to contact Louis? I may have some work for him.
Thank you in advance.
