Aurora on Leopard

Aurora 3.3.3 (3.8 MB, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard only)

The regular Aurora 3.3.3 probably won’t work for anyone using Leopard, so I prepared this Leopard build just a few minutes ago. One thing that probably won’t work is switching to Front Row’s “Now Playing” (it’s disabled for that reason) but everything else seems to be working. I say seems because I did like 10 minutes of testing right at the WWDC buffet here – let me know if it works for you or if it doesn’t. This build uses GC and won’t run on Tiger.

When I’m trying to set a test for myself (to see if my MBP would wake up etc, which it does :D ), I usually set an alarm to go off in the next minute. So it it’s 8.48pm, I try to set one for 8.49pm, yet it says that 8.49pm is tomorrow. I always have to go to the next minute eg. 8.50pm. Off-by-one error?

Apart from that, Aurora’s great :D

It’s a firmware limitation. If you set the Mac up to wake in less than 60 seconds, it just won’t do that. Aurora knows this and therefore behaves this way.

    Ahh, makes sense :)

Just had a read in the documentation to see if this was mentioned and have now seen you can even turn the Mac *OFF* and it will boot up at the required time. That’s awesome :D

Hi. I really hope this version works properly for me. It might be a problem on my end but I have had very inconsistant luck with Aurora.

Thanks for your feedback. If your problems persist with Aurora 3.3, I’d he glad to help you with your problems if you can provide more details on how you use Aurora / set up your alarms / if you close your notebook’s lid / unplug the power etc. Just email me at jonas at metaquark dot de.

Seems like this version broke the use of snooze with the Apple remote. It worked perfectly a few weeks ago, but this last update totally messed it up. When I hit the pause button on the remote to snooze aurora, the song stops for a moment then starts playing again. If I keep this up, eventually it just never comes back on again.

    Hello,
    Aurora is great, thank you!
Just one problem to report: If I want to be waked by radio, there is no alarm. When I try it for a test in 3 minutes, all works proper, but when I set it for waking in the morning, nothing (also the safety alarm) works, just the iMac wakes up!? Any suggests?
Apart from that it’s a great tool :-)
    Thanks, Ole

Hey awesome that you made a build for leopard that quick! but….theres always a but right?…. when i try and use aurora for falling asleep it would always crash the entire program. i did get it to work a few nights ago, but it did not actually put the comp to sleep.

This version of Aurora is very unreliable unfortunatly…
Sometime when I test it for waking up in the next minutes it kinda works but when it needs to wake in the morning NEVER works. It can wake the Mac, it starts playing music but it crashes before fading in the sound, so it’s playing… in mute!
Last night I’ve tried to leave the Mac awake, with a nice sound level and didn’t activate the fade in option. Result: it crashed and iTunes didn’t even started playing :(
Fortunately i don’t need to wake early so often, so I’m hoping on a working Aurora version :)

Found a simple and (seems to be) working well solution for my problem (Aurora on Leopard crashing everytime before waking me up)
I’ve made an AppleScript that plays the playlist you want, and then set Aurora to run it when waking up. The playlist and the volume are harcoded, so you need to change that manually.

    tell application “iTunes”
reveal (some playlist where name begins with “Wake”) –Set the playlist
set sound volume to 100 –iTunes Volume
    set volume 5 –System Volume
    play
    end tell
